🪅 Heap Heap Hurray Ed. #100

Daily dispatches from the world of technology.

A very good Monday morning to you! Let's tackle the week together.

🆕 Announcement - we have a new section - Change Log.

We find that there are many updates to popular apps or websites and they don’t necessarily fit in either the Gossip or News sections. Hence, we will have this dedicated section to highlight them. This section may not appear on all days and just like a product change log, the information will be kept minimum. You can click on the link though to read more about it, like the links in every other section.

Geek Gossip

#GlobalCapabilityCenter - GCC’s or Global Capability Centers are cropping up across the country. What are they? Think of them as back office support for large companies. Where previously they were shunted, they are now becoming the most sought after places to work. Besides the learning opportunities, flexible work environment, and vibrant company culture, the GCCs are offering 25-30% higher salaries than IT services companies!

#Meta - Meta will resume scraping UK public feeds of Facebook and Instagram users for training AI. The social network has been cleared by regulators to resume harvesting UK adults' comments and posts. The first notifications to users explaining how their data will be used should be arriving next week.

#FlappyBird - So, you know how that guy Dong Nguien created Flappy Bird and then pulled it down, right? Anyway, he's denying involvement in a new game and casting aside all those rumors, saying he didn't profit from it and never sold anything or supported crypto. Typical him, always trying to keep it real.

#VisionPro - Researchers used eye tracking to work out the passwords and PINs people typed with their avatars. The attack, dubbed GAZEploit, allowed the researchers to successfully reconstruct passwords, PINs, and messages people type with their eyes.
